Holism

Holism: Looking at the whole...

Lifestyle: the way we live our lives, our habits, our food, shelter, spiritual practise, attitudes, relationships....

The Holistic Lifestyle is a way of life that pays attention to the whole person including the environment in which we live. however we are on the inside is reflected in our environment. the microcosm and the macrocosm, both areas that can be addressed to create optimum health.  Harmony within creates good health, and harmony on the outside nurtures healthy relationships with others and the environment in which we live. A holistic lifestyle is one where a person is able to look at the whole being and nurture all aspects of self, both emotional, mental, and spiritual, alongside the physical. It is vital that the outer environment is also nurtured to maintain balance and harmony , then we may be healthy and happy as an individual, with the potential to emanate love and light into the world - inspiring others towards health and wholeness.

Mind Body Spirit

mental & emotional care

Most of our daily lives are taken up with work practises. It is so important to like your work, then it is performed with much more love, dedication and enjoyment. We CAN choose to work at something we like. This makes for much more harmony and enjoyment of life.

Our attitudes contribute enormously to our wellbeing. A holistic aproach to life places equal importance on emotional and mental health as to the physical. Open expression of feelings, use of mechanisms for coping with life crises. Being open to the opinions of others, with compassion and caring.

Good friends, healthy intimate relationships, and a strong family bond create an ideal environment to feel loved and supported in life.

physical care

Lets look firstly at how good health is created from the inside: You are what you eat !
A healthy diet consists of variety, preferably using foods that are organically grown. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables; complex carbohydrates such as rice, pasta, wholegrain breads; moderate protein intake using nuts, seeds, pulses, beans, meat in moderate amounts; fish, chicken; small amount of fats, preferably non-animal, such as avocado, tahini; dairy or soy cheeses and yogurts.
Plenty of fresh water, that is 1.5-2.0 litres per day; minimal tea, coffee and alcohol. Fresh fruit juices are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Exercise keeps the bodily functions working well: walking is especially good, and one should take a brisk walk each day in the fresh air for healthy heart, lungs, and general circulation. Stretching the muscles in activities such as yoga keeps the body supple and the skeletal structure strong.
Adequate sleep is also important for good health: 6-9 hours per night is optimum.

soul sustenance

How we relax at the end of the day is most important.Working hours are often spent in the service of others, therefore it is vital that hours of recreation are taken in the service of the self. Reading, music, dancing, laughing, hobbies and crafts, sports; some of the many ways to enjoy free time.

Spending time with friends, those of like mind enjoying the pleasures of nature together at the beach, in the bush, near the river.
Nurturing the spirit is vital to an holisitic approach to life, with some time each day devoted to meditation and/or prayer. These especially nurture the soul, strengthening the spritual side of the person, allowing greater ability to cope with lifes challenges. As meditation brings a stillness, negativities are dispersed and a more objective aspect can be seen to ones difficulties and problems. Strengthening the spirit, a more positive attitude can be expressed, flowing more freely with the river of life.
A positive attitude nurtures emotional wellbeing, and in turn physical good health. Attendance at church may be chosen.
